FAQs

Q: Where are your baked goods made?
A: All of our baked goods are made fresh in our family kitchen in Indianapolis, Indiana. Maggie brings her Mexican heritage and love of traditional baking into every recipe, while our little helper, Franklin, makes sure each batch is full of joy and family spirit.

Q: What makes your recipes unique?
A: Most every loaf and pastry at Concha Cottage starts with Eduardough, our longtime sourdough starter that’s been lovingly nurtured through time. This natural fermentation gives our breads a richer flavor, softer texture, and longer freshness—without any preservatives.

Q: Why do we love sourdough?
A: Sourdough isn’t just delicious — it’s also known for being gentler on the body than most modern breads. The slow fermentation process breaks down gluten and natural sugars, making it easier to digest. It also helps your body absorb more nutrients like iron, zinc, and magnesium from the flour. Plus, the lactic acid bacteria that develop in sourdough act as natural preservatives, helping our breads stay fresh longer without added chemicals.

Q: Do you operate from a certified kitchen?
A: Concha Cottage is a registered and certified Indiana Cottage Food Operation, which allows us to bake and sell directly from our home kitchen while following all state safety guidelines.

Q: What types of baked goods do you make?
A: We specialize in traditional Mexican breads and desserts—like conchas and pan de muerto—alongside American favorites such as cookies and sweet loaves, all with a warm, homemade touch.

Q: Do you take custom or special orders?
A: Absolutely! We’re happy to accommodate birthdays, holidays, and special occasions. Just send us a message through our Contact Us page or email us directly with your ideas, quantities, and preferred pickup date. Any order of a dozen or more of any item is considered a special order.

Q: Where can I buy your products?
A: You can place orders right here on our website for local pickup in Indianapolis. You can also find our virtual store front on websites such as Market Wagon and Hotplate. We also operate a bakery stand on certain weekends, follow us on Instagram and Facebook to see where we’ll be next! Follow this link for Market Wagon

Q: Do you offer delivery or shipping?
A: At this time, we offer local pickup and limited local delivery within the Indianapolis area through our website. If you would like your order to be shipped outside of Indianapolis, please visit our virtual store fronts on Market Wagon and Hotplate. Because our baked goods are made without preservatives, we don’t currently ship out of state—but we’re exploring ways to expand soon!

Q: How long do your baked goods stay fresh?
A: Most of our items are best enjoyed within 3–5 days. Store breads and cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for the best flavor and texture. For conchas, a quick warm-up in the microwave or oven brings them right back to life!

Q: What forms of payment do you accept?
A: We accept online payments through our website (credit/debit cards and digital wallets), as well as cash and contactless payments for local pickup.

Q: Do you make seasonal or limited-edition items?
A: Yes! Maggie loves celebrating the seasons with special bakes—like pumpkin spice conchas in the fall and pan de muerto around Día de los Muertos. Keep an eye on our homepage and social media for limited-time offerings!
